NATO phonetic alphabet – Alpha Bravo Charlie

Silvia Planella/ April 5, 2013/ News

The most commonly used phonetic alphabet today is that adopted by NATO in the mid 1950’s, approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the U.S.

A spelling alphabet is used to spell parts of a message containing letters and numbers to avoid confusion, because many letters sound similar, for instance “n” and “m” or “b” and “d”; the potential for confusion increases if static or other interference is present.
Phonetic Alphabet Tables are useful for spelling words and names over the phone.
