What is a call centre? Definition in a child’s mind

Silvia Planella/ March 4, 2013/ News

There are thousand of definitions on Internet about “what it is a call centre?”. However, they are a bit boring and not suitable for all ages. For example:Call Management Employee

Pricenton university: “Call Centre is a center equipped to handle a large volume of telephone calls (especially for taking orders or serving customers)”

Wikipedia: “A call centre or call center is a centralised office used for the purpose of receiving or transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone.”

The free dictionary: “A department within a company or a third-party organization that handles telephone sales and/or service. Inbound call centers, which take calls from the outside, use automatic call distributors (ACDs) to route calls to the appropriate agent.”

So, we have asked our employees to provide a sample of their answer to their children when they ask: “Mum/Dad, where do you work?”.  At some stage your children always ask you where do you work and what do you do? So find here some inspiration:

“I told them: ‘Mum works helping other persons to answer their questions’

“My boy was eleven when he asked me; so I just explained to him that I send e-mails and answer phones for different companies. But he wasn’t satisfied with this answer and asked me ‘how I was able to do that … so’, I tried to explain what a  CRM system was and how it works. He just got more confused.

“I just told her that my job consists of talking a lot to nice people. My little princess decided instantly that she wants to do the same when she grows up. Definitely she loves talking.”

“My kids visited the office during the open day in Halloween and they had a lot of fun. So, they wanted to know if everyday was the same. It was difficult to explain to them that I work in a contact centre and we answer calls from different companies.  Now, they believe I am a kind of superhero that works in over 100 companies from my desk.”

“My wife explained to our kids. ‘Don’t tell anyone but Dad spends all day talking on the phone when he is at work. If his boss realises it, he may not be too happy. So it is a secret.’ It was fun trying to make them understand that ‘my boss’ pays me for this”
